OpenOffice Impress can poll too

While we have native support for PowerPoint on Windows and native beta support for Keynote (and PowerPoint Mac) polls on Macintosh, it seems that OpenOffice Impress gets left out. Mainly because it has its own plug-in specifications that most software developers don't bother to write for, including ourselves. It turns out that OpenOffice can indeed embed live polls from Poll Everywhere in your Impress presentations. Please note that these won't be cross-compatible with PowerPoint (and vice versa) if you save the file out to PowerPoint format.

* Note: These instructions will work for OpenOffice.org v3.0 and above on Windows or Mac.

Step 1: Go to Insert -> Object -> Plug-in...

Windows_xp

Step 2: Copy/paste the URL from one of your polls. Simply visit a poll from the My Polls page in your Poll Everywhere account. Copy the URL in the browser bar to your clipboard.

Step 3: Paste the URL into the File/URL box in Impress:

Windows_xp-1

Step 4: As pictured above, be sure to add ".swf" to the end of the poll URL. It should look similar to the URL shown above.

Step 5: Hit OK and you're done. It should look something like this:

Windows_xp-2
