Local Cable, Baby

Maybe the mark of success is when you make it on local cable (without buying your way in)?

We loved the piece.  Great job Palm Breeze!

Neat idea about using Poll Everywhere for school climate surveys.  We’re already seeing a lot of people in education use our cell phone voting for mock elections, or student council elections.

We won’t tell anyone how you clear the results to get more participants out of the free account. I guess that means - we wont tell ourselves :)

Free Text Polls - Change Colors and Text Sizes

This week we bring you customizable free text polls! Just like our multiple choice polls, now you can change the colors, font sizes, and a few other attributes in your poll.

Your Poll Called: It Wants Something Sexy

Your polls don’t have to be all business all the time!  Check out some of the backgrounds we’ve added so you can spice up your polls’ visual impact.

Embed Charts in Web Pages

A lot of clever people embedded our flash charts into their web pages by using Firebug to grab a snippet of code and paste it into their web pages. Now you can just copy and paste a snippet that we make for you from our website.

Account Orders

Tired of asking for us to send you another copy of your invoice? Now you can easily see your history of orders from Poll Everywhere.

Now its easy to print off an invoice for your expense account.

Improved CSV Support

Are you exporting data out of Poll Everywhere? We fixed some tiny bugs that caused problems when somebody would text a value with a single or double quotation mark. Now all of your data will display correctly in Excel, Numbers, OpenOffice, or any other application that understands CSV.

Remember Login on Multiple Computers

When you check “Remember me on this computer” we won’t forget you if you login to another computer and want to be remembered there too. This is great for anybody who creates polls from their desktop and needs to be logged in on their laptop.

Polls Have New Tricks: Copy, Scale, RSS…

We have a nice variety of small enhancements that you guys asked for.

Copy Polls

Professors, professional trainers and public speakers - here’s your dilemma: You have your favorite SMS poll.  You use it again and again.  But you don’t like having to save off old data and clear your votes or responses just to use a poll with a new audience.  This will help you save that retyping.

Polls Scale Up and Down Better

In the past, poll font sizes stayed the same in absolute terms whether your poll was 20% of your screen or 100% of your screen.  Now polls behave better when scaling, letting you do cool things like this 4-poll-in-1 PowerPoint slide example.

With better scaling, many polls can fit in tight spaces

RSS for Results

Large digital displays and billboards for advertising often accept RSS feeds as data inputs for scrolling news tickers.  Now every marketer with access to digital signage can create their own Text Message Ticker feed.  It makes SMS-to-Billboard a much easier project, and makes developer mash-ups easier.

User Summary

You purchased Poll Everywhere for the entire company - now how do you know who’s using it?  Your accounts page now shows you when your users logged in and how much they’ve been using their text message surveys and polls.

Hide Stuff to Use PowerPoint’s Slide Title, or do SMS Picture Polls

In a Poll’s chart options, you can turn off the poll title and the text for the choices, mostly for use within PowerPoint.  This is also useful for science educators who need students to pick from chemical structures or graphical equations.

In the Chart Options, you can disable the Title or Option text

This means you can make slides the way you want to - with the question as the title, and pictures or illustrations for each option.  If you’re doing an SMS-Idol style competition, or taking a vote for a favorite band or company, you can use their logo to visually reinforce the option.

Real-Time Moderation & Chart Settings That Go Everywhere

We’ve had tons of requests for real-time moderation for free-text response polls. We’ve listened and now we’ve delivered. Today we’re introducing our new support for real-time response moderation, available on some of our premiums plans.  Most Audience Response Systems and their 12-key keypads are too clunky to let people text in words and sentences.  But text-to-screen (or “txt wall”) can give participants the impression that it’s ok to yell anything anonymously. Now, we give you control over which SMS and Web responses are okay to display in live results and which are not.  You can outsource this job to someone in your organization or to a professional service like ICUC moderation. That way, you’ll never be embarrassed by audience members who might submit distracting or unproductive messages.

Chart Settings (colors, visual options, and themes) Saved Globally

The Adobe Flash-based poll settings let you customize colors, select % vs total votes, bar vs column, and set many other visual settings.

Polls used to save their display settings only on the computer they were customized on, sort of like setting your computer’s desktop wallpaper.  But if other people viewed your poll on their own computer, they would not see it with the visual settings you selected.  This is now fixed.

If you’re running a poll in PowerPoint or on a new computer, and we can’t detect that you’re the poll’s owner, we’ll ask you to login if you want to save your settings for all viewers.  Otherwise, your changes will be just applied for the current computer. This way you don’t have to login if you’re in the middle of a high pressure presentation and just need to quickly bump up the font size for the people far in the back.

One way to help PowerPoint polls know that it’s “really you” (and skip the need to re-enter your username and password) is to make sure you use the “Remember me” option when logging in to Poll Everywhere.

This has some exciting effects: now you can email your PowerPoint presentations out to people and they will see your poll exactly as you see it.  Or choose your favorite color theme and embed your live SMS poll on your blog - everyone will see it the same way you do.
